A regular meeting of the coordinators of the Consulting Committee of the Finno-Ugric peoples discussing the issues of preparation for the World Congress has been held in Moscow.

7th of February 2016 in Moscow the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Komi was hosting a meeting with Consulting Committee coordinators of Finno-Ugric peoples. During the meeting, there was a discussion over the issues related to the preparation of the VII World Congress of Finno-Ugric Peoples, to be held 15-17 June 2016 in Lahti (Finland). The main topic of the congress will be "The Finno-Ugric peoples - towards sustainable development.". The Congress is expected to discuss various issues of life and development of the Finno-Ugric peoples in accordance with current realities, including continuity of adapting and utilizing the Finno-Ugric and Samoyed languages ​​and cultures as well as perspectives of Finno-Ugric information space development. Appropriate thematic areas of the congress will be considering these issues.

In addition, the following thematic areas will be included: “Civil Society and Authorities”, "Economy and Environment", " Demographics and Migratory Processes. Old and New Diasporas."

As the coordinators mentioned at the meeting, preparations for the congress are going according to the plan. At this stage, the topic of discussion was the candidature of the moderators and keynote speakers of the thematic areas. Coordinators sought to achieve the largest possible representation of different Finno-Ugric and Samoyed peoples among them.

On February 8th the coordinators will attend a meeting with the proposed moderators and keynote speakers of the Finno-Ugric countries and regions of the Russian Federation in order to organize thematic sessions and prepare proposals for a final document of the congress.
